Sun 19 Apr 09: Departures

Yesterday we held a family dinner - we numbered 11. :) Bjarni and Ewelina had gone north with cousin Ingimundur to see the beauty and sights; on the way back, Ingimundur's mom, Ella, and the kids' grandmother hitched a ride with them and accepted our dinner invitation. :)
They arrived around 8 p.m. I kept pushing the dinner back and we finally ate around 8:30. Lora was here and Andri brought his girlfriend, Freyja, to meet the family. And just as we were sitting down to eat, Einar's youngest brother, Ottar arrived (visiting from Copenhagen). So he joined us, as well. :)
I got a couple of pictures but they're still in the camera.
People starting leaving around 10:30. Then Bjarni and Ewelina scrambled to finish sorting and packing. Einar helped Bjarni put a couple of suitcases up in the loft and then gave them a ride (with only their backpacks) to Ingimundur's place. Ingimundur lives very close to the bus terminal where people catch the bus to the airport. Their bus (and flight) left very early in the morning.
Meanwhile, I finished cleaning up the kitchen and then crashed. I was very tired. When Einar got home a few minutes later, he did the same.
This morning Einar concentrated on packing his own things; his flight leaves around 4. He'll be one night in Copenhagen and then on to Vienna for the European Geophysical Conference. He got his poster done and printed out, but then hit a snag with the hotel booking. He had to first find the hotel he'd been booked into! He saw the room charges on his card, but found no confirmation email from the hotel so wasn't sure of the name; he stressed about it all yesterday afternoon (even forgot to eat), but finally tracked down the right hotel this morning and confirmed his reservation using Skype. After that, his stress diminished considerably. :)
Bjarni called to let us know he and Ewelina had arrived safe and sound at Heathrow airport in London. They anticipated a several hour wait before flying on to Dublin.
Einar's cohort picked him up about 20 minutes ago. Outside, the wind is strong and shrilling through the trees. I hate it! And rain joined in just before Einar left. Yet, it is not all that dark as it sometimes gets with this weather combination. Strange.
I looked up the weather forecast for Vienna. It is offering up light showers a couple of the days Einar will be there, and sunny on others. Twenty degree (C) temps during the day, and hovering around 10 at night. Could be worse. :) Maybe Spring has sprung in Vienna and Einar will be greeted with blooming flowers and budding trees. That would be pleasant. :)
Last night I discovered new faces on Facebook. :) What fun! I hope to interact with them A LOT in the foreseeable future! ;)
Last but not least, today is Unnur's birthday. Happy Birthday, Unnur! I hope your day is fun and fine!
